Dr. Baffour Awuah is currently the Chief Program Officer, Medical and Dental Unit at the Technical Directorate of the Ministry of Health. He is a Consultant Clinical/Radiation Oncologist. He graduated from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) in 1986 with Bachelor of Science, Human Biology (General) and Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery in 1989. He pursued postgraduate training at University of Witwatersrand, Johannesburg, South Africa and qualified as a Fellow of Radiation Oncology in 1998. He pursued management studies at KNUST and graduated in 2010 with MBA, Strategic Management and Consultancy.
He has over thirty (30) years’ experience in Health care services and Research. He worked actively as a Clinician from 1990 as Medical Officer, at Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) and qualified as a consultant from 1998 onwards. He was the Head of Directorate of Oncology (KATH) from 2004 to 2010 and Medical Director (KATH) from 2010 to 2018. He has previously served on several Boards, such as Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital Board, Kumasi Center for Collaborative Research (KCCR), Ghana College of Nurses and Midwives (GCNM). He has also served on a number of Committees at the National Level in the past such as National Blood service committee, Ministerial Committee on Human Resources (MOH). MOH Vehicle Revolving Fund Committee.
At the International Level, He has been a Technical Advisory Group Member on Cancer Prevention and Control for WHO in 2005, Executive Committee Member for Breast Health Global Initiative and Currently a member of WHO Global Breast Cancer Initiative and WHO Strategic Advisory Group Member on Non-Communicable Diseases. He has been involved in several Cancer Research locally and internationally. His major Research areas are Cancer Epidemiology and Triple Negative Breast Cancer. Dr Baffour Awuah joins this Board with His Local, National and International Experience in Health Care service delivery and Research at all levels of care.
