H.E. Shi Ting WANG said that in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic, China and Africa have offered mutual support to each other. He stated that at the onset of the pandemic, China was the first country to send medical supplies by chartered flight to Ghana, share their experiences, send medical experts as well as provide anti-epidemic materials to support Ghana in its fight against COVID-19. He revealed that China has pledged that once the development of the COVID-19 vaccine is completed in China, African countries will be among the first to benefit from it. “I am confident that we will ultimately defeat the virus, and that China-Ghana relations are poised to embrace better days ahead”, he reiterated. H.E. Shi Ting WANG also added that this year marked the 60th anniversary of the diplomatic relations between China and Ghana and that both countries were working closely to build a relationship based on a shared future.
The Deputy Minister of Health, Hon. Dr. Bernard Oko Boye who was a special guest at the donation ceremony, said in his remarks that all citizens of Ghana should know that the fight against COVID-19 was not the burden of only the medical personnel, but that of the whole country and so all Ghanaians and residents in the country should play an active role in the war against the Virus. He encouraged Ghanaians to observe all laid down health protocols and advised the citizenry to eschew misinformation during the crisis as this had “the tendency to cause more harm than the Corona virus itself.”
The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ghana, Prof. Ebenezer Oduro Owusu who was part of the delegation that received the donated items, stated that the items will greatly assist UGMC to stay on its feet as it continued to treat individuals affected with the Virus.
