Research Interest

My current research is in the area of nutrition and immunology (immuno-nutrition). It focuses on the identification of  host-directed targets against infectious diseases such as  Mycobacterium tuberculosis, using anti-inflammatory nutritive agents such as omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids, Vitamin D etc. supplemented diets, to manipulate eicosanoid and other pathways, as adjunct treatment, as an alternative approach in TB and other infectious disease therapy. This area of research as applied in pre-clinical (animal model) and clinical trials (human).

My other research interests are in the areas of  Clinical Nutrition /Nutritional epidemiology, public health/Community Nutrition intervention and policy programs, nutrition in the life cycle and nutrition in sports

 Current projects

1.   Effects of n-3 LCPUFA and ibuprofen, alone and in combination, as adjunct host directed therapy in a pulmonary Mycobacterium Tuberculosis C3HeB/FeJ mouse model

2.   Tuberculosis recovery enhancement by adjunct therapy with omega-3 fatty acids: The TREAT3 study
