Research Interest

My research is encapsulated under Chronicity of Diseases, including Diabetes Care and Coping as well as cultural diversity and sensitivity in nursing care. I am grounded in qualitative research with most of my work centred on individuals’ living with diabetes, social meanings attached to diabetes mellitus, patients’ reactions following diagnosis of diabetes and resolution, challenges living with diabetes and coping experiences of diabetes patients as well as supporting people with chronic diseases in general. I have research interest also in nursing communication, specifically hovering around nurse-patient interactions.

Current projects
1.   Development of a Care Model for Diabetes Patients with Associated Stigmatization/Coping with Chronicity of Diseases in General.

2.   Exploring social meanings attached to diabetes mellitus: lay perceptions of patients newly diagnosed with type 2 diabetes mellitus.

3.   Healthcare provision for diabetes patients in Ghana: challenges and the way forward.

4.   Building social capital through volunteerism: an exploration of the extent and role of student volunteering in the undergraduate student population: a pilot project. (To compare the extent and role of volunteering among undergraduate nursing students at Middlesex University and the University of Ghana).

5.   The relationship between HbA1c level, symptoms and self-rated health in type 2 diabetes patients in three hospitals in the Greater Accra Region.

6.   Chronicity of Diseases/Coping experiences of persons living with diabetes mellitus: policy implications for patient care.

7.   Gestational Diabetes Mellitus (GDM) - Experiences of pregnant women, midwives, and obstetricians and extent of screening in Ghana.
