Projects completed in last 5 years
Projects completed in last 5 years
- Comparative assessment of physical injuries among small-scale gold miners (licensed versus unlicensed) within the Tarkwa mining district. I was the principal investigator and worked with colleagues from The Ghana Health Service, The University of Michigan School of Public Health, USA and The McGill University, Canada. It was an NIH funded project
- Integrated assessment of Artisanal and Small-scale gold mining project. This project was collaboration between over 20 researchers in Ghana from various academic and/or research institutions (Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, University of Ghana, University of Cape Coast, Centre for Scientific and Industrial Research, Ghana Health Service) and colleagues from the University of Michigan. It involved a holistic assessment of the impact of small-scale gold mining under 3 broad headings, namely; Human health impact, Natural science (environmental) impact and Policy implications. I was one of the principal investigators for the Human health working group.
Current projects
1. Complementary and Alternate Medicine Use in the Management of Breast cancer. I am a co-principal investigator in this study which employs mixed methods and is collaboration between surgeons, public health physicians and sociologists. I am responsible for the design, data collection and analysis. - 2. African Neurobiobank for Precision Stroke Medicine: ELSI Project. This project looks at the Ethical, Legal and Social Implications (ELSI) of Genetic studies into Stroke. It is a follow up from the SIREN project.
